Read. Watch. Listen.

What I read, watched and listened to in December.

Girls Against God by Jenny Hval:

An amazingly weird, horror, feminist novel that is very, “Lords of Chaos.” If you haven’t seen the movie or need a refresher, the movie focuses on the early 1990s Norwegian black metal scene and is told from the perspective of the metal band, mayhem. This book is basically that but from the perspective of a coven of tween/teen girls and I loved it.

The Other Black Girl

It’s Devil Wears Prada meets Get Out with Stepford Wives vibes. It was my favorite read of the year so obviously when it was released on Hulu, I watched it in nearly one sitting. And, the show delivered. The fashion was on point, I loved that the author was very present in the screen adaptation, Bellamy Young was fantastic as always but I didn’t love Will playing the bad guy, he will forever be Will (from Will and Grace).

Scamanda

What a wild story! One, who fakes cancer? Two, the amount of effort to educate oneself on medical procedures, etc and keeping the false narrative going as long as she did, is crazy! Three, carrying and birthing healthy babies with stage four cancer, I don’t think so! And lastly, the fact that Amanda’s moron husband is not serving any time (he absolutely played a part in this whole scheme) astounds me.
