What I read, watched and listened to in July

Watch: Archive 81

The height of sci-fi/horror fictional podcast was between 2015-2018. You’ve got The Black Tapes Podcast, The White Vault, Darkest Night, Lake Clarity, The Box, The Magnus Archives, Archive 81, and the list goes on. As a horror nerd, I devoured these shows , Archive 81, being a personal favorite, (except for that terrible audio of the static noise). I just recently started watching the Netflix original and I’m liking it but it’s a little slow paced for me. I have about three episodes left, has anyone watched it? How do you feel that Netflix canceled it after just one season?

Read: You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight by Kalynn Bayron

There are no words for this new teen horror novel. An ode to 80s teen slashers, I felt that Kalynn Bayron personally wrote this book for me. Summer camp in the middle of woods, check. Visiting the local library and looking through old microfiche about missing and murdered teens from the late 70s/80s, check. Weird freemason-like cults, check. Not just final girls, but black badass final girls, check! I absolutely loved this book! More, more, more!!!

Listen: Betrayal

Not knowing Betrayal was a podcast, I watched the first season the day it premiered on Hulu. I was initially happy that Jen reconnected with her college sweetheart years later, but my heart hurt for her so much by the end the third episode. To know that Spencer is out (what a joke of a sentence he got) and has people who continue to support him, makes me cringe. To the young high school girls who spoke out and about what a perv he was. I am sorry! The fact that Spencer will probably be able to get a job, literally makes me sick. Immediately afterwards I binged season one and two of the Betrayal podcast.
