Three Books

Three Books

What I read this month

The Rabbit Hutch by Tess Gunty

A haunting and beautifully written novel by a debut author, this story takes place in a fictionalized South Bend, Indiana and follows the residents that live in a low-income housing building. There’s so much going on in this book and it’s dense but I absolutely loved it. This is a story about the darkness of American culture. If there is only one book I recommend to read this year, this is it! But also just supporting my Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s writers.

I Have Some Questions For You by Rebecca Makkai

As you all know campus thrillers are my jam, so the setting of Makkai's latest book was a total vibe. A woman goes back to her New Hampshire boarding school where her roommate was murdered twenty-eight years ago. So the case gets brought back to life again and you start to see all the flaws in the initial investigation. As much as I loved this book, there were a lot of characters to keep track of, the second part dragged a bit and there were some random side plots that were just eh.

Dead Flip by Sara Fairizan

An excellent homage to both It and Stranger Things. A teen mystery you don't want to miss. The 90s, a mysterious pinball machine and the quest to find your missing best friend? I loved everything about this book.
