The last days of summer include high desert hiking trips, spending an entire day reading at the beach and indulging in blueberry waffles. What have been some of your favorite trips this summer?
Weekend Wrap Up
A few months ago David surprised me with tickets to see Sara Bareilles at the Hollywood Bowl, and I think I screamed for like twenty seconds. I’ve been a long time fan of Sara’s, the fact I missed her when she came through South Bend and performed at the college gymnasium at Saint Mary’s and I was in Chicago visiting my parents, like, why couldn’t my family have picked any other weekend to visit me. Even though that was like fifteen years ago at this point, I still hold this against them. Regardless, she was amazing, as usual. Her opener was, surprise, Renee Elise Goldsberry.
We visited a couple of bookstores I’ve been meaning to check out, we strolled through the gardens at the Greystone Mansion, visited the Larchmont Village, and obviously mapped our whole weekend around restaurants we’ve been wanting to try. The perfect weekend getaway but glad to be home. How was your weekend?
Weekend Wrap Up
July has been a quiet month. I have been enjoying being a little lazy and not having so many plans. David I went out for a dinner and movie date Friday night. I did have to work Saturday morning but I treated myself to a chai tea and a delicious bagel sandwich heading into the office and then I spent the rest of Saturday leisurely grocery shopping, getting in some laps at the pool and finished re-watching a show I loved in college, Greek (it was an ABC Family show in the early 2000s). Sunday was just as quiet, I did a little bit of laundry, made a donation pile of things to get rid of, took a nap with my cat and cleaned the kitchen. It may sound a like boring weekend but it was exactly what I needed. Whatever your plans were, I hope you had a relaxing weekend as well. Happy Monday and have a great rest of your week.
Weekend Wrap Up
My very low key weekend started early Saturday morning by signing up for a new library card and checking out a stack of books I could barely hold. I decided I wanted to start watching Murder, She Wrote because I’m 36 going on 86, I spent an entire afternoon thrifting and then grocery shopping. Sunday night I made the most delicious burger and peach and avocado salad. I have to say, Slow Girl Summer is off to a great start!
Boring Girl Summer
I don’t really have plans for the summer especially since David and I will be traveling to Europe later this fall for our honeymoon. I’m so looking forward to hitting the pool, summer pasta dinners, Friday movie nights and lots of reading. I subscribe to several writer’s newsletter and this post about Boring Girl Summers really spoke to me. Join me for a boring girl summer!
How to have a Boring Girl Summer by Lauren Marie
Forget about your phone. Find it floating around the junk drawer in the kitchen three days later when you go to look for matches.
Arrive at the farmers market thirty minutes early to chat with your neighbours and take home the best heirloom tomatoes in town.
Spend all day preparing a meal. Make it completely from scratch. Touch, smell, taste, and visually admire each ingredient.
Wear your bathing suit as an outfit because there’s no air conditioning and your stomach deserves a little kiss from the sun.
Eat the juiciest stone fruits and citrus without a napkin in sight. Then jump into the lake before all the sugars make your hands, neck, and chest sticky.
Skinny dip. Dance. Sing. Yell at the top of your lungs. Run as fast as you can. Walk on the grass with bare feet. Make sand angels at the beach.
Write poetry for yourself and keep it a secret.
Make love in the afternoon.
Lounge in the backyard and read while you drink homemade iced tea sweetened with local honey.
Sleep under the stars. Pull the mattress outside if you need.
Continue being grateful for each and every day.
Savour this one precious life.
