A Trip to the Library

A Trip to the Library

Did I go to Rhode Island just to visit an almost two hundred year old library? Yes, I did. And then I became a member because it’s one of the oldest member’s only libraries in the US. Welcome to the The Providence Athenaeum, it was founded in 1836 and is one of the most charming places I’ve ever been. Visiting The Athenaeum was at the top of my list of places to visit and I’m so glad we went. We hung around Brown University, walked the canals, ate a popular college bar and spent a few hours perusing the library.

I honestly felt like I was transported back to my college days. The fall foliage was in its peak with deep reds, browns and yellows, the leaves danced in the wind until they made it to their final resting place covering the campus lawn. It was midday so class had just let out, students were walking around campus in their Brown sweatshirts/baseball hats and backpacks and their nose glued to their phone as they headed to their dorm or off to grab lunch. Nevertheless, I was in heaven and didn’t want to leave.

If you ever find yourself in Providence and are feeling generous and want to support libraries, visit The Athenaeum. I promise you will love it.
